John Deere is seeking engineers to help develop lithium-ion battery solutions. John Deere sees demand growing for batteries as a sole- or hybrid-propulsion system for vehicles. Products in Deeres portfolio such as turf equipment, compact utility tractors, small tractors, compact construction, and road building equipment could rely solely on batteries as a primary power source. Deere intends to continue to invest in and develop technologies to innovate, deliver value to customers, and work towards a future with zero emissions propulsion systems. As a Senior Battery Systems Engineer for John Deere Power Systems located in Cary, NC, you will.
Develop system, component, and sub-component specifications for the various elements of energy storage systems including functional, performance, safety, and compliance requirements
Execute analyses of potential designs, including electrical capability, battery life, thermal, isolation/creepage and clearance, etc
Support the development of an efficient energy storage solution strategy - including batteries, controls, and associated hardware
Lead data analysis activities and interpretation related to battery field performance to guide requirements development and product improvements

What Skills You Need
5 or more years experience in product development
3 or more years experience leading technical projects
2 or more years experience in lithium-ion battery design
2 or more years experience with MATLAB/Simulink
Experience with requirements management tools
What Makes You Stand Out
Demonstrate excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships and coach team members, and work with customers and suppliers to solve problems and resolve issues
Strong understanding of battery systems, battery cooling, and the integration of such a system within a vehicle
Familiar with battery development process for EV/HEV applications
Able to translate vehicle system requirements to the battery cell and system requirements
Knowledge of the vehicle powertrain and vehicle architecture
Strong understanding of how vehicle level requirements for performance, range, durability drive, battery energy, power, and durability specifications
Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:
Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or other related discipline with experience
