Title: Part-Time Student-Research Specialist-JDTIC Champaign IL - 71372
The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule.
This position will be located at the Research Park on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus in Champaign, Illinois.
As a Research Specialist for John Deere’s ISG (Intelligent Solutions Group) located at the Research Park- John Deere Technology Innovation Center (JDTIC) in Champaign, Illinois, you will conduct research for a wide variety of business and engineering/technical/agronomy needs. You will utilize business databases and publicly available resources to research companies, technologies, and business issues. You will synthesize this information and present it in professional reports or PowerPoint presentations. All work will be performed at JDTIC in Champaign’s Research Park.
What It Takes
Ideally, you will be enrolled in a master’s program in Library & Information Science, Business, Communication, Agricultural Sciences or related field or equivalent experience
Must be registered as a full-time student at a local university
Ideal graduation date of December 2021 or later
Cumulative GPA 2.8 or above
Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
16-20 hours/week during the academic year
35-40 hours/week during the summer semester
Advanced search techniques to find information resources and the ability to evaluate these sources for validity and relevance
Ability to synthesize information and present it in formal reports that are well-written and visually appealing
Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm to learn advanced topics
Ability to work autonomously while providing regular updates to team members
What Makes You Stand Out
Experience using business databases (D&B Hoovers, PrivCo, etc.)
Experience using agriculture, science, and technology databases (IEEE, Web of Science, etc.)
Experience with patent searching and intellectual property issues
Knowledge of technology standards (ANSI, ASTM, SAE, etc.)
Knowledge of the agriculture or construction industry
