The European Technology Innovation Center (ETIC) of John Deere is part of a global R&D network in Kaiserslautern. Its focus is on the research on and development of future trends and technologies in the area of mobile agricultural and construction machines in close collaboration with diverse research institutes.

PhD position „Determination of the quality of agricultural goods with near infrared technology and Deep-Learning approaches“
In this position, you will work on the future of agricultural technology. You will develop sensor solutions, which will be deployed in highly automated agricultural machines for precise farming. Already at an early stage, you will take over responsibility in a cooperation with internal and external partners and research institutes and will contribute significantly to the success of the project.
The assigned tasks will give you the opportunity to perform your PhD on the job. You will be given the opportunity to adapt the focus and the depth of your studies to your interests and the subject area of your university studies.
Build a solid understanding of constituent sensing in agricultural applications
Play a lead role in coordinating an international development project
Analyze constituent sensor data and develop calibrations for constituent sensors based on deep learning approaches
Define and support test measurement runs on prototype and production sensors
Report project progress to the development team on a regularly basis
What Skills You Need:
Above average graduate of computer science, electrical engineering, applied physics or comparable area
Experience with machine learning
Experience with programming and data analysis, preferably with R
Willingness to do scientific work
Openness and interest in agricultural technology
Good command of English both written and spoken – German is a benefit
Solid communication skills
Strong ability to work well in teams
Willingness to travel to a limited extent
