Title: Quality Engineer - 55010

Your Responsibilities

As a Quality Engineer for John Deere Ottumwa Works located in Ottumwa, IA, you will provide quality planning, control, and improvement support to ensure John Deere product quality meets the customers' expectations. This position provides quality engineering oversight for the Round Baler assembly operations. In addition, you will:

  • Monitor and facilitate quality activities for part approval, verify manufacturing processes (control plans, assembly instructions) and confirm process capability

  • Use quality tools and practices to establish approval criteria to ensure the identification of quality failure concerns for both internal and external manufactured parts and assemblies. An example is Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA)

  • Investigate unit quality related issues and concerns related to product and processes, gather and analyze data, resolve/facilitate resolution and implement corrective action

  • Investigate product quality problems, determine root cause for quality problems, gather and analyze data and implement corrective action to reduce or eliminate non-value waste resulting from non-conformances, scrap or reclaim

  • Facilitate and write quality procedures for the purpose of maintaining/updating the factory quality system and support quality system audits, review results with audit team, and participate in management review meetings

  • Provide training and/or supervision to co-workers, inspectors, technicians and auditors on quality procedures and tools to monitor critical processes to assure consistent control and/or to implement cost-saving ideas to improve our products to meet customer expectations

  • Be a mentor to incoming Quality Engineers/Engineering Development Program employees/interns as required

What Skills You Need

  • Experience with drawing and schematic interpretation, product models, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

  • Experience with standard quality tools such as FMEA (Failure Modes Effect Analysis), SPC (Statistical Process Control), Root Cause Analysis, Statistics

  • Experience with manufacturing processes, quality, tooling, tool design

  • Knowledge of products, customers, markets and competitors

  • Experience with advanced data gathering and analysis techniques, including statistical analysis

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to lead and facilitate meetings/projects within a cross functional team to achieve factory/product line metrics

  • Effective people skills and ability to work in a team environment

What Makes You Stand Out

  • 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly assembly and welding

  • 3 or more years of experience in quality engineering

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing conditions and reprioritize efficiently and effectively

Education (or equivalent work experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent technological discipline
