Function: Product Engineering

Title: Senior Engineer I - 51147

Your Position:


Performs basic product design work for a defined portion/ parts/ sub systems of a project to meet defined schedule, performance and reliability goals. Operates in a team environment, providing inputs to design solutions and participating in design reviews. Develops recommendations within established guidelines; work and decisions may be reviewed by supervisors/experts before implementation.


Description of the major duties performed in this job.

  • Produces and/or evaluates possible design solutions to improve cost, quality and performance based on specialized knowledge of engineering applications. This may include possible involvement of other functional engineers, supply management and/or supplier personnel.

  • Analyzes assignments and determines engineering specifications which must be fulfilled for routine problems or projects.

  • Compiles and furnishes necessary information (engineering decisions and reports of pertinent design analyses data) to document the design solution required for building of prototypes and adoption of the design with possible involvement of other functional engineers, supply management and/or supplier personnel.

  • Develops engineering solutions for field issues, factory issues or new product programs per design guidelines of the specific product.

  • For responsible designs, effectively integrates other functional inputs such as manufacturing, supplier, quality etc.

  • Learns and applies company engineering policies and practices.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

Specialized skills, knowledge and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Good understanding of engineering principles as they relate to the company product.

  • General fundamental understanding of machine forms relevant to the specific job assignment and Company division/unit. Knowledge/familiarity with machines manufactured by competitors.

  • Good skill in using computer aided design and/or engineering tools.

  • Good skill in using company information systems and processes.

  • Detailed knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) and application of the same to varied situations.

Communicates and works closely with project management team, design engineering analysis group, supply management, Quality Management team and suppliers to enhance design and project schedule
