Your Responsibilities

As a Senior Software Developer, for the John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG-Urbandale), you will part of an Agile (scrum) team working on Scala, Python, Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies. In addition, you will:

  • Participate in all aspects of the team's work, including analysis, design, coding and testing

  • Join a team of passionate developers and testers to design, develop, test, and integrate applications of high complexity

  • Operate in a collaborative, open environment focused on using Agile development techniques to autonomously deliver solutions quickly and effectively

  • Ensure that coding standards, patterns and approaches are appropriate, consistent and of high quality

  • Be responsible for hands-on code development, review and delivery

  • Provide solutions design and coding practice guidance to cross Data Platform team members

  • Perform hands on coding and lead the team by example

  • Be considered a cross team expert on tools and technology in use

  • Lead a culture of software crafting best practices across teams, including Test Automation, Continuous Integration, and Continuous Deployment

  • Lead the way in terms of new technology adoption for betterment of product reliability

  • Work across teams to create and enforce coding standards, workflow, or tool standards

What Skills You Need

At this level, you should be the absolute best at what you do - the person everyone turns to for answers. You make the people around you better by clear technical expertise combined with an ability to effectively communicate that expertise. Here's what that looks like:

  • 6 or more years of experience in designing and developing complex Java applications

  • 3 or more years of experience in building low-latency & high volume, distributed, scalable and reliable backend systems

  • 3 or more years of experience in providing technical mentoring to mid-size teams

  • 1 or more years of professional experience working on projects/products being developed on AWS

  • 3 or more years of experience in TDD, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery and Agile methodologies

  • 2 or more years of experience in contributing in architecture and design of new and current systems

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, comprehension, and presentation)

  • 1 or more years of professional experience designing and developing Scala applications

  • AWS certified Developer or 1 or more years of equivalent AWS experience

  • Experience with Precision Ag technologies

  • Experience with complicated and highly scalable real time streaming applications

  • Experience working with a geographically distributed team

  • Experience in supporting applications on 24x7 schedule

  • Experience with using or creating load testing tools/frameworks

Education (or equivalent work experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Computer Science or Technology related discipline
