Function: Product Engineering

Title: Staff Software Development Lead - 62769

Your Responsibilities

As a Staff Software Development Lead, at the John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG-Urbandale), you will lead a team of Developers (direct and contingent) to deliver Precision Ag products within the Operations Center platform. In addition, you will:

  • Provide engineering direction for assigned products and projects

  • Drive product development in collaboration with design and product management

  • Contribute to software development at least 25% of the time

  • Provide technical leadership and counsel within the team

  • Assist in the resolution of complex technical issues within the department as they arise

  • Attract, retain, mentor and grow your team

  • Identify and monitor metrics that define the success of products

  • Champion technical designs and strategies beyond your direct team to influence the direction of the Operations Center organization

  • Be responsible for performance management, coaching and developing direct reports

What Skills You Need

  • 10 or more years of software development experience (C++, Java, Ruby, Python, JavaScript, NodeJS etc.)

  • 5 or more years of experience with Test Driven Development

  • 5 or more years of technical leadership experience on software projects

  • 2 or more years of architectural design leadership providing design direction across multiple teams

  • Experience with Agile practices

  • Demonstrated ability to decompose customer needs and problem statements into technical solutions and tasks

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

What Makes You Stand Out

  • 3 or more years of experience using AWS services (Elastic Beanstalk, Lambda, ECS, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, S3, RDS, etc.)

  • 4 or more years of experience in roles that required strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills

  • 2 or more years of experience with React / Redux JavaScript frameworks

  • 2 or more years of experience with Acceptance Test Driven Development / Automation Testing / Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment

  • 2 or more years of experience with Java / Spring / Hibernate

  • 2 or more years of experience with creating and consuming REST APIs

  • 2 or more years of experience with data modeling and SQL

  • 2 or more years of experience in supervising a medium size team (6-10 members)

  • Technical experience related to precision farming and management practices

Education (or equivalent work experience)

Ideally, you will have a degree or equivalent work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Computer Science or Technology related discipline
