Title: Senior Paint Manufacturing Engineer - 50926

Your Responsibilities

The Senior Paint Engineer at John Deere Seeding in Valley City requires a great depth of paint engineering knowledge to lead, plan, coordinate and perform Manufacturing Engineering work for current production activities and new product programs affecting all paint systems in Valley City. Duties include:

  • Justifies, coordinates and plans the acquisition and installation of all paint equipment in Valley City

  • Plans, assigns, directs and reviews work done on the paint system by, contractors, suppliers, other engineers and other supporting elements

  • Subject matter expert on the paint system and all paint equipment in Valley City

  • Leads the development of part routings, creates, oversees and audits paint hang methods, creates and modifies standard operating procedures and work instructions

  • Uses simulation and analysis techniques and other e-tools to validate and verify process and paint system plans

  • Defines and leads capacity planning and productivity improvement activities for the paint system

  • Champions paint quality through stringent process adherence, and implementation of quality process improvements

  • Works closely with the Environmental group to assist with reporting and proper disposal of hazardous waste

  • Leverages enterprise information and resources to define and develop new paint processes and technology

  • Works with Weld and Assembly Engineering on design for manufacturing guidelines including drain holes, access points, and hang methods

  • Works with Operations and helps train paint personnel

  • Works with supply management and suppliers to reduce paint processing costs

What Skills You Need

  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal, who thrives on solving problems and working in a global team environment

  • Previous experience as Paint ME or Materials Engineer working with paint manufacturing operations

  • Ability to troubleshoot paint defects and equipment problems quickly to support operations

  • Ability to control pre-treat process within recommended parameters

  • Ability to set-up, train, and verify calibration of paint application equipment

  • Knowledge and proficiency in Computer Aided Design concepts and Computer Aided Process Planning concepts

  • Knowledge of capital budgeting and capital equipment justification processes

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to apply lean manufacturing concepts and tools to eliminate waste

  • Ability to work flexible hours, as needed

What Makes You Stand Out

Other areas of experience or interest that will help us place you on the right team include:

  • Broad Manufacturing Engineering background that includes experience with Welding, Painting, Manufacturing and/or Distribution processes, Total Productive Manufacturing and Facilities

  • Knowledge or experience in more than one paint technology (E-coat, Dip, Liquid, Powder)

  • Previous automated painting experience

  • Experience with design, install, and start-up of a new paint system

  • Knowledge of paint simulations, capacity planning, and environmental regulations regarding paint operations

  • Knowledge of TrakSys and Ignition

Education (or equivalent work experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Ag Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Industrial Engineering
