Title: Base Engine Diagnostics Development Lead - 106978

Onsite/Remote: Onsite Position

This position is eligible for a flexible work schedule arrangement at the present time. The arrangement may be delayed for training or other job acclimation purposes and remains subject to change.

Your Responsibilities

As a Base Engine Diagnostics Development Lead for John Deere Power Systems located in Waterloo, IA , you will:

  • Support the integration of Base Engine Diagnostics across all engine platforms, applications, and emission levels (T5, FT4, SV, ROW).

  • Develop Base Engine Diagnostic requirements including air system, combustion, control system, related AECDs, and related engine protection systems.

  • Support the development of software components (SWC) to meet requirements incorporating the latest state of the art process & methods, including model-based development (HIL/SIL/MIL) and lab-based development techniques.

  • Teach/Mentor PE&C development engineers through providing a Community of Practice (COP) leadership that fosters the development and adaptation of common engineering tools regarding the integration of diagnostics.

  • Develop, manage, and deploy knowledge of best practices regarding the optimization and calibration of diagnostics.

  • Support CI and Field Performance teams in field problem resolution and support cross-functional teams to develop solutions consistent with distinctive product quality across all engine platforms, applications, and emissions tiers.

What Skills You Need

  • 5 years of relevant engineering work experience in engine/AT system development, calibration, controls, diagnostics, or dynamic system modeling

  • Demonstrated competence in diagnostic algorithm and calibration development leveraging physical testing, model-based development (GT, Matlab, etc.), and application data analytics

  • Demonstrated clear communication of technical data and project information in performance and emissions hardware, controls, and calibration development, including the ability to summarize complex technical issues into key points, recommended actions, and lead execution

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Demonstrated ability to convert a diagnostic concept into a working simulation model

  • Experience with Onboard Diagnostics

  • User experience with tools such as GT-Power, National Instruments Diadem, DevX, Matlab, and Simulink

  • Experience using Design of Experiment methodologies, modeling, and optimization techniques

  • Experience in roles that demonstrate a consistent delivery of quality results and attention to detail

  • Experience in roles that required frequent direction to team members when situations are approached on a tactical basis

  • Experience serving as a mentor to less experienced engineers

  • Experience and recognition as an expert in one or more engine development competencies, such as: engine development, engine calibration, engine controls, aftertreatment development and/or calibration, aftertreatment and/or engine simulation, engine component development or system integration

  • Demonstrated ability to work and provide technical input and guidance cross-functional

  • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority

  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Ag Engineering, or other related engineering discipline

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ag Engineering, or other related engineering discipline
