Your Responsibilities

As a Machining Manufacturing Engineer for John Deere Drivetrain Components located in Waterloo, IA, you will…


  • Support Gear Finishing Operations in the areas of safety, quality, and delivery. Identify issues or opportunities for improvement and resolve them

  • Maintain routings documentation, tooling, gauging, programming for current production parts for processes such as hobbing, turning, shaping, drilling, and grinding; this will include working with internal and external suppliers of tooling, gauges, and machines to ensure a quality outcome

  • Support lead engineers on machine purchases and PDP part launches

What Skills You Need

  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills to interact with all levels in the organization and supplier personnel.

  • Demonstrated high ability with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word

  • Demonstrated proficiency to use algebra, geometry, and trigonometry

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete multiple, concurrent projects

  • Ability and willingness to work variable hours to include off-shifts and overtime if needed

  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience in roles that required a working knowledge of shaping, hobbing, turning, milling, drilling and hard finishing of ferrous materials.

  • Experience in machining steel components, preferably gears and shafts

  • Experience applying gear and shaft manufacturing tools and technology.

  • Experience in shop floor process adjustments necessary to correct geometry and quality problems.

  • Experience with interpreting part prints and GD&T designations.

  • Experience with the use of AutoCAD or related software.

  • Experience leading and supporting cross functional teams for projects of moderate scope.

  • Experience using Power BI, Tableau, JDAAT or other data analysis tools

  • Experienced in using SAP


Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Associate of Science in Manufacturing Technology and minimum of 2 years of applicable work experience or Bachelor of Arts/Science in an Engineering or Technology related field preferred.
